A Cultural Dialogue: Rabbi Shmuley & Connor Tingley

During Miami Art Week, Ori Gallery’s presentation at Scope Miami became an unexpected point of convergence between contemporary art and spiritual inquiry. Among the distinguished visitors was Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, whose attention was drawn to The Rabbi, a pivotal work from Connor Tingley’s latest body of work, The Nun Series.

The piece prompted an impromptu and deeply engaged dialogue between Rabbi Shmuley and Tingley, one that moved fluidly between philosophy, faith, and artistic intention. Through abstraction and contrast, The Rabbi explores themes of devotion, identity, and the human tension between belief and introspection, resonating powerfully with Rabbi Shmuley’s reflections on tradition, spirituality, and emotional depth.

As Tingley shared insight into his creative process, he described the figures within The Nun Series as archetypes of inner conflict and spiritual paradox, works meant not to resolve questions, but to hold space for them. Their exchange drew a quiet audience, offering a rare moment of stillness amid the fair’s momentum.

For Ori Gallery, the encounter embodied the purpose of the exhibition: to create a platform where contemporary art becomes a catalyst for meaningful dialogue across disciplines and generations. The conversation stood as a reminder that art, at its most resonant, transcends aesthetics, inviting reflection, connection, and deeper understanding.

Rabbi Shmuley later described the work as “deeply evocative,” praising its ability to merge emotional rawness with spiritual nuance. For Tingley, the moment affirmed the series’ intent, to create work that lingers, challenges, and speaks to the inner life of the viewer.
