December 2-7, Miami, FL
Ori Gallery is pleased to announce our solo booth at Scope Miami Beach, presenting two divergent bodies of work by LA-based Connor Tingley, alongside four sculptural works by Ai Weiwei, on loan from generous collectors.
Tingley’s practice unfolds across two distinct bodies of work. The Nun Series inhabits the booth’s interior while the Abstract Realism Series extends outward. Together, they establish a dialogue between instinctive mark-making and disciplined labor, exploring how photography, tradition, and cultural narratives shape beauty, identity, and belief.
The Ai Weiwei sculptures, Dragon Head, Snake and Rabbit, and Dragon Head (black and white), are from his Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads and Zodiac (2018) series, and they add a layer to Tingley’s exploration. Here, the dragon, revered in the East, demonized in the West, emerges as a symbol of contested meaning, examining how perception and power operate across cultures.
Collectively, these works dissolve the boundaries between technique, culture, and status, asserting that art remains fundamentally human: an analog, intuitive negotiation with presence and the unknown.
